Help for "Say the sentence"

This game is a variant of the game "Fill the sentence". In this game you don't have to enter any letters, you can display a certain part of the letters and select individual letters until you know which word it is. If you say the sentence correctly in the target language without any instructions, you get full points. For every letter that the programme gives you, you get one minus point.

You can find the right words based on the word lengths, but you will certainly need hints for longer sentences.

Percentage defaults:

You can use the "Percentage of presettings" button to specify a large proportion of the letters, e.g. 80 per cent for difficult sentences. If you can then read out the sentence without making any mistakes, you will still receive 20 per cent of the sentence as learning points. However, the fewer letters you give, the greater the learning effect.

Individual letters:

If you are unsure about certain words, you can have specific parts of the words displayed. This is certainly the most effective way to learn. If you click on a position in the target sentence, the correct letter is revealed.

Specify vowels or consonants:

You can either have all vowels or all consonants revealed.

Translations according to mappings:

If mappings are defined, and in most cases they are, you can click on a group of words in the source sentence and the translation will immediately be placed in the target sentence. This option is intended more for beginners in a language.

Solve:

If you press this button, the programme displays the complete target record. Three more buttons will now appear. You have to judge for yourself whether you have said the sentence completely correctly or only partially correctly. If you didn't manage it at all, press the third button. If you press the first button, you will receive the learning points according to the uncovered letters, in the second case (partially correct) you will only receive half. In the third case, there are no learning points.

Skip sentence:

The sentence is displayed but you use this button to say that you did not want to translate or say the sentence.

Advantages and disadvantages compared to the "Fill in the sentence" variant

One advantage is that you save time because you have to enter less. The disadvantage is that you don't practise the spelling of the words as intensively. Also, no words are added to your active vocabulary. Because the programme cannot check whether you have really read or said the sentence correctly or at least almost correctly, the percentage results are not as reliable as when playing with real input.

For multilinguists:

Because this variant is less time-consuming, you can practise the sentence in several languages at the same time. Click on the "Same sentence in another language" button to repeat the game in the newly selected language.
